Whether you’re spending Valentine’s Day with that special someone or you’re opting to celebrate Galentine’s Day this year, February 14 isn’t exactly the day to skimp on your makeup. While most girls go for the obvious choice of a red lipstick (we can’t exactly blame them — it’s is a staple in our makeup bags), if you’re doing a dinner date to celebrate, you should be worrying about other things besides your lipstick.

To switch things up a bit, we decided we wanted to play up the eyes this Valentine’s Day. Achelle Dunaway, makeup artist and Creative Director at e.l.f. Cosmetics, created an easy date night eye look you can do in less than 10 minutes. Follow the steps above for the perfect Valentine’s Day makeup!

Looking for date night eye makeup you can do in less than 10 minutes? We've got you covered.

Step 1: Apply primer to your eyelids for the base of the eye to help lock in the shadow to make it last. If you don't have primer, you can use concealer or foundation.

Step 2: Using a mid-tone eyeshadow, sweep across the eyelid using an angled brush like e.lf.'s Angled Contour Brush. For this look, Achelle worked with the Prism Eyeshadow Palette

Step 3: Using a darker color to contour the shape of the eye, create a bit of a smokey eye. Achelle used e.l.f.'s Mascara and Shadow Sheild underneath the eye so that no excess product would fall onto the face. If you're in a hurry, this product is amazing for giving you a clean look without having to fix any messes.

Step 4: Apply black eyeliner pencil along the lash line. If you want a true smokey eye, go a bit heavier on the eyeliner and bring it down underneath the eye too. Use a makeup remover pen to clean things up if you need.

Step 5: Blend the eyeliner with a clean eyeshadow brush to really get that smokey look.

Step 6: Finish by applying black mascara to polish up the look. For this eye, Achelle used e.l.f.'s Mineral Infused Macara

Once you master this Valentine's Day eye makeup look, you can use it for the next date night you have coming up!
