Statement Hair Accessories: Chic or Over-the-Top?

Shannon Farrell

Hair accessories are very often a quick fix and saving grace for mornings when you’re facing unmanageable locks and little prep time. But sometimes the accessory itself becomes the statement piece, and recently a few celebs have been sporting some extra bold ones. Here are the most notable we’ve spotted this week.

Rose Byrne Melbourne Cup Day

Rose Byrne was seen in Melbourne, Australia at Melbourne Cup Day yesterday with this flower headpiece. Although normally we wouldn’t be too fond of an accessory that covers half of the head, we are kind of digging this chic black-and-white floral piece.

British singer Pixie Lott picked a similar floral accent but went bolder with a yellow flower crown at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards on Monday. This one we are a little unsure about. Girly yes, but should this be reserved only for Halloween or the local Renaissance Fair?

Mischa Barton Melbourne Cup Day

And lastly, there’s Mischa Barton, also at the Melbourne Cup Day, who was channeling Princess Beatrice with an outlandish hat. (Ok, so think part fascinator, part hair accessory.) British princesses can pull off the look because, well, they’re royalty, but Mischa should stick to her gorgeous laidback look that made us love her on The O.C.

So what do you think of these accessories: chic or over-the-top?
