How Celebrity Fitness Trainer Simone de la Rue Trains Her Skin

As a professional dancer and fitness trainer, people often ask if I have a beauty routine—after all, it may seem counterintuitive to use products when I’m eventually going to sweat. But the truth is that taking care of my skin is just as important as taking care of my body. When I developed my Body By Simone technique, I took the aesthetic elements of my classical ballet training—the grace, elegance, and youthfulness of it all—and created my own beauty regimen to reflect the way I felt inside and out. Here, I spill my favorite skin tips with L’Oreal Paris, the skin experts, a go-to brand for all my beauty needs. This one’s for all you active ladies.

1. Firming cleanser
A firming cleanser is a no-brainer for me. I personally recommend one that is deep-cleaning and foaming to keep things gentle for both the mornings and evenings.

2. Hair mask
When my hair starts feeling dry (this can happen if you have to shower often), I slather on a thick hair mask to moisturize the ends.

3. Hydrating moisturizer
The thing about being active is that your skin can end up feeling dry, especially if you have to wash your face several times a day. To combat this, I recommend an extra-moisturizing stabilizer that has a botanical-based gel for amazing hydration.

4. Daily sunscreen
I live in LA, so protecting my skin from the harsh UV rays is important. Opt for a light moisturizer with SPF 30 that doesn’t feel oily if you plan on sweating!

5. Retinol cream
Now that I’m 40, I am more aware of how my skin is aging. I personally love retinol cream because the Vitamin A makes you look 10 years younger! It’s life-changing and I only use it once or twice a week.

6. Eye treatment
People say eyes are the windows to the soul and I’d have to agree, just as long as my eyes aren’t puffy or have dark circles under them. For a quick spell, I dab the L’Oreal Paris RevitaLift™ Triple Power™ Eye Treatment under my eyes when I have 6AM clients to depuff and make me look awake.

7. Dry shampoo
When I have back-to-back clients, I really don’t have time to wash my hair in between workout sessions. So to keep my hair looking clean, I recommend a dry shampoo—and it only takes a few seconds to look refreshed!
