Shaving isn’t exactly our favorite beautifying procedure. If anything, it’s outright annoying—does anyone really want to stand upright in the shower for ten minutes working to get smooth, fuzz-free legs? We’ll also say that we take issue with many standard shaving creams: They come in unwieldy aluminum packaging and they often smell like they may be toxic, which is not quite the recipe for something we want to put on our skin. We hate to use the phrase “borrowing from the boys,” but that’s kind of what we’re doing when we opt for these creamy, luxurious alternatives to traditional shaving creams. Because why should the men have all the fun… and all the smoothest skin?

Shaving-KiehlsKiehl’s Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream ($16, kiehls.com)
Kiehl’s is the gold standard for straightforward skin care that works, so it should surprise no one that their unscented shave cream is top notch. It can be used on wet skin in the shower or on dry skin any time, perfect for that patchy area by your ankle that you always miss. You only need a bit to get a good shave, so the tube will last positively ages.

Shaving-eoseos Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream ($3.49, evolutionofsmooth.com)
A cheap drugstore offering that promises a smooth, silky shave and 24 hours of moisture? Sign us up. The aloe extract in this formula helps to prevent nicks and bumps while fending off ingrown hairs, and a wealth of antioxidants actually offer brightening properties, too. Yes, you can get better-looking legs while you shave.

Shaving-DermalogicaDermalogica Soothing Shave Cream ($20, dermalogica.com)
If you’re particularly prone to redness and soreness post-shave, then this one is most definitely for you. Targeted towards dry, sensitive skin types, this lubricating cream uses soothing ingredients like aloe, allantoin, and panthenol to coat the skin and prevent razor burn. The key is in its ability to calm and soothe the skin before shaving, so you’re less likely to irritate delicate skin overall.

Shaving-GiovanniGiovanni Moisturizing Shave Cream Sensitive ($6.99, giovannicosmetics.com)
Fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, packed with skin-softening ingredients like aloe and jojoba—you can’t go wrong with this mild, affordable pick. Nicks and cuts are virtually impossible with a moisturizing formula like this one, and the multiple oils leave the skin nourished once you step out of the shower, too.

Shaving-BigelowC.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream ($10, bigelowchemists.com)
Smoothing, soothing coconut oil is the star player in this beloved shave cream, which also contains menthol, camphor, and eucalyptus for a refreshing feel (read: it’s perfect for summer). A little bit goes a long way for lather with this one, so the majorly affordable tube will also carry you through for weeks.
