The hair and makeup looks on last night’s Oscars red carpet were, for the most part, all-around gorgeous. Though many of our favorite starlets opted for simple, classic beauty, some overall trends inevitably emerged. These 5 red carpet hair trends were the most popular of the evening—and it isn’t hard to see why.

Center Parts
The luminous (and very pregnant) Keira Knightley opted for soft, full waves and a clean center part that pushed her shorter front layers to either side for dimension.

Center Parts
We can't say enough good things about Jenna Dewan's fresh-faced look, but we're especially partial to her crisply center-parted ponytail. The sleek part draws the eye to her face—and perfect brows.

Center Parts
It's always a good day when we see America Ferrera, our favorite "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" star, on the red carpet... and it's even better when she's sporting a cool, trendy look, like this slick center part with loose, fluffy waves on the bottom.

Slicked Back
We have so many feelings about Scarlett Johansson's rad new pixie cut, and this flattering pompadour with shaved sides may just be our favorite look on her yet.

Slicked Back
We'll go right ahead and say it: Getting a cropped cut was the best beauty decision Jennifer Hudson has ever made. This style, with a deep side part and brushed-back front layers, is the peak of pixie perfection.

Slicked Back
We're of the mind that Cate Blanchett is a total goddess who can do no wrong, and this slightly undone, pulled-back look was among our very favorites of the evening.

Smooth Blowouts
We're used to Nicole Kidman being the epitome of polished perfection, so her bouncy shoulder-length blowout comes as no surprise. It's totally foolproof, and totally gorgeous.

Smooth Blowouts
It isn't hard to see why Jessica Chastain usually opts for simple, straightforward hairstyles—with that gorgeous copper color, she doesn't really need to do anything crazy to show everyone else up. We love the way this soft, straight blowout looks pushed behind her shoulders.

Smooth Blowouts
Kerry Washington has mastered the art of pulling off timeless hair and makeup looks that never seem stale. The choppy ends of her glossy blowout keep the look from reading too prim.

Sleek Side-Parted Updos
The long side-swept bangs add the perfect face-framing touch to Marion Cotillard's lovely updo—which, we'll note, also puts the focus on her stunning earrings.

Sleek Side-Parted Updos
Could Karolina Kurkova get any more gorgeous? We think not. This classy updo perfectly suits her clean, fresh look.

Sleek Side-Parted Updos
This was Julianne Moore's night, and the Best Actress winner turned heads in her romantic hair and makeup look, particularly this shiny, classic updo.

Blunt Bangs
We're madly covetous of Dakota Johnson's long, super-flattering bangs. If only we could pull them off as well as she does.

Blunt Bangs
There are plenty of reasons that we'd like to trade lives with Anna Faris—her husband Chris Pratt, for instance—but her wavy blonde hair and edgy bangs are just another thing for us to add to the list.

Blunt Bangs
Felicity Jones is relatively new to the red carpet, but she's had no shortage of seriously impressive looks so far. Her long bangs are perfect.
