Olivia Wilde stepped out to promote her new flick, the aptly named Cowboys & Aliens, sporting a ponytail that looks like she’s smuggling meatballs in it. We used to think the stunning star could do no wrong on the red carpet, but this pouffy ponytail has us a bit perplexed–we can’t tell if we love it or hate it.

Check out these red carpet-worthy ponytails!

While we acknowledge that it’s a bit odd, there is a part of us that is strangely drawn to this bulbous ‘do. We’re so used to seeing plain old ponytails that any sort of divergence from the norm is looked at with interest.

Granted Olivia could make a paper bag look sexy, but still, there’s something about this look that’s working for us. It’s unique and styled, but doesn’t look like she’s trying too hard. We get a total warrior woman/futuristic vibe from the multi-cinched ponytail.

If you want to attempt this look at home, we got the scoop from Olivia’s hairstylist, Couture Colour brand ambassador David Babaii, on how to recreate the pom-pom ponytail.

First, apply Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment to wet hair. For Olivia’s look, the Pequi Oil Treatment helped to make hair smooth, shiny and easy to style. Then use a round brush to blow-dry hair straight. Brush the hair into a high ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Wrap a hair elastic every ½ inch to an inch down the ponytail. To finish off the look gently pull out a little hair from between each elastic section to add body.
