It’s no secret that, like you, we’re obsessed with red lipstick; it’s a staple in our beauty wardrobe. But when it comes to fall reds, we admit we’ve been struggling to find the perfect shade. We’ve been dreaming of an intense orange-red that isn’t too coral—something bright and beautiful, with a hint of the ’70s to it.
And then last night at the InStyle Awards, our wishes came true: we found our dream red on the lips of Miranda Kerr. The shade in question? None other than Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1975 Red ($32, Charlotte Tilbury).
We’re genuinely obsessed with this shade. Inspired by Jerry Hall’s iconic Vogue cover shot by Norman Parkinson, this vivacious orange-red is as warm as a sunset, and with a semi-matte, cashmeresque texture that we cannot get enough of. It’s the perfect way to wear red lipstick in fall: intense and vibrant, in a shade that recalls the bright oranges and reds of the changing leaves in a retro (but not dated) way.
The orange base to this red means that the shade works on literally every skin tone, and the intensity of the color ensures that it’ll definitely be the focus of your look. We especially love it because once applied, it really stays: there’s zero feathering and very little transfer throughout an entire nine-hour workday. The texture is hydrating without being slippery, and never give us that awful drying, powdery feeling common to so many mattes. Plus, the heavy rose gold case is practically a work of art; you’ll be proud to display it on your vanity.
195 Red is like that perfect soft sweater you reach for over and over as the weather gets cold—simple, gorgeous, deceptively sexy. Consider all of our fall lipstick wishes granted.
