In past years Maybelline has nabbed big, buzzy names like Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn for its coveted spokesmodel gig; however, this year’s girl is a little more obscure (but just as cool): 20-year-old Tanzania-born, Canada-based model, Herieth Paul.
Paul announced the news on Instagram today, posting a flawless selfie with the caption: “This has been the hardest-kept secret of my entire life AND the highlight of my career. I am so honored & excited to announce that I am joining the Maybelline family!!!! I’m so grateful to be named a global spokesmodel for the world’s #1 cosmetics brand.”#MaybellineGirl ✨”
While Paul might not have starred in quite as many mainstream beauty and fashion campaigns (yet!) as women like Hadid and Dunn, she is an über-successful runway model, walking for major labels including Balmain, Lanvin, Givenchy, and Oscar de la Renta, and has landed Vogue Italia and French Elle editorials. And now that she’s got a Maybelline contract under her belt, we bet you’re about to see a lot more of her.
In a recent interview with Glamour, she spoke about seeing increasing diversity in the industry: “When I first started modeling in 2011, there were very few darker-skinned girls. Now I see girls from all over the world. You see Asian girls, Indian girls—you see every kind of girl. I feel like it’s getting better—we’re not there yet—but I see a change. There’s still some work to be done!” she said.
And now–because we can—here are a few more flawless snaps and selfies from Paul’s Instagram. This girl is seriously amazing.
