It may be blistering cold outside, but that doesn't mean our makeup should suffer from the winter blues. Brighten your look (and mood) with these simple makeup tweaks.

Go Matte
Love a nude lipstick? Try a matte version instead, like Allison Williams', for a subtle change.

Play with a Stain
For color without the bold pigment, work a lip stain like Zoe Saldana. The glossy texture makes the lip just as enticing.

Bring Back Summer Brights
Don't be afraid to bring bright blues (like Olivia Wilde's pretty cobalt) and pinks back into your makeup wardrobe this winter.

Match Your Lips and Cheeks
Keep it light on the eyes and use a bright lipstick like Miranda Kerr's. Dab a bit on your finger and blend the color along your cheekbones.

Give the Glow a Go
Bring hydration back into your skin with a liquid highlighter along the cheeks for natural-looking dewiness. Just look at the gorgeous contrast between Lily Aldridge's matte and dewy textures.

Take Out the Bronzer
Take a break from a pale complexion with bronzer just along the cheekbones like Lea Michele

Add Colored Liner
The easiest way to add color to your makeup is to lightly rim the lash lines with a thin tipped liner. Kellie Pickler has just a touch of color, yet it completely brightens her eyes.

Play With Purple
Purple lipstick doesn't have to be reserved for the runway. A subtle berry-purple hue like Jamie Chung's is bright without looking cartoonish.

Work the Brows
Go light on the rest of the face and layer on the brow powder for a bold look like Diane Kruger's. Use a spoolie brush and work the hairs up for a natural finish.

Layer on the Lashes
With a dark lip like Blake Lively's, the less on the eyes the better. But do coat the lashes on top and bottom to even out the look.
