Would You Wear Katy Perry’s Runway-Inspired Headband Braid?

Megan Segura

We always expected that the New York Fashion Week trends would trickle down to the celebrities, we just didn’t think it would be this soon. Today Katy Perry stepped out wearing the same headband braid that was featured at the Rebecca Minkoff Spring/Summer 2014 show. The style was inspired by artist Frida Kahlo, as well as an old photo that Minkoff came across of Bianca Jagger wearing the same style.

Backstage, TRESemmé stylist Jeanie Syfu gave us a how-to for the style:

Step 1: Prep damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse ($4.99, walgreens.com) and rough dry.
Step 2: Create a messy zig-zag side part from the hairline all the way down the center of the head, and keep hair separated by clipping off each section.
Step 3: Create another zig-zag part that goes from ear to ear.
Step 4: Brush back hair for texture and create a ponytail in each section just behind the ear.
Step 5: Create a 3-strand braid with each ponytail and fasten with an elastic.
Step 6: Wrap braids around the top of the head, tucking the ends of the braids under and fasten with bobby pins.
