After months of speculation and obsessing, it finally happened–The Royal Wedding! Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot this morning, much to the delight of the entire British population and most Americans.
The bride wore an ivory lace gown designed by Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton. The dress, which was covered in floral lace applique, was stitched by the Royal School of Needlework. The floral designs were hand-cut from Chantilly lace and engineered onto ivory silk tulle.
The V-neck dress featured a long-sleeved lace overlay, fitted bodice and full, subtly pleated skirt. Her train, unlike Princess Diana’s cumbersome 40-yard one, was a relatively demure eight feet.
The speculation was that Kate would wear her glossy chestnut locks down, and she didn’t disappoint. To top off her beautiful gown, Kate’s hair was loosely pinned back in the front, with soft, flowing curls in the back.
Kate’s makeup was kept natural and soft, with a flushed cheek, dusty rose lip and her signature defined eye.
A Cartier tiara, on loan from the Queen, was placed delicately on her head and a simple lace-edged veil completed the ensemble. Her earrings were a gift from her parents and were inspired by her family’s brand new family crest, which features acorns.
Guests at the wedding included Sir Elton John, who was one of Princess Diana’s close friends; David and Victoria Beckham; Guy Ritchie, Madonna’s ex-husband, singer Joss Stone and photographer Mario Testino.
Kate and William were also gifted with new royal titles by the Queen: Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. We like Princess Kate better!
