Elizabeth Taylor won her first Academy Award for her role as Gloria Wandrous in the film based on John O'Hara's 1934 book. In one of the first scenes, Wandrous scrawls "No Sale" in lipstick on her beau's mirror before pilfering his wife's mink coat.
