Kate Winslet, Jennifer Aniston--heck, even Justin Bieber--when these celebrities changed their signature hairstyles, everyone had an opinion. Even if you're not famous, changing your default 'do is always a risk. If you've ever made a hairstyle change you've regretted, consider these low-risk tips from Nexxus hairstylist Kevin Mancuso . They'll help you make subtle changes with a big impact--and avoid a makeover disaster!

If you've always dreamed of going lighter, but the thought of covering your head in peroxide gives you night terrors, then subtle highlights like Vanessa Hudgens' are for you. Mancuso's tip: Tell your hairstylist to "use a sheer toner over highlighted hair to subtly enhance the color, richen it and make it more three dimensional." If you're already blonde but have always dreamed of going to the dark side, add some lowlights!

If you're not ready to make the chop like Jennifer Aniston, then you can always try one of the hottest hairstyle trends in Hollywood right now: the faux bob. "If your hair is layered you can put the longest layer up and let the shorter layers hang loose to get an idea of what your hair may look like at that length," Mancuso advises anyone considering a drastic hair length change.

You probably change your wardrobe to follow current trends; why not switch up your hairstyle? "This past Oscar season was retro-inspired. The most notable trend was side-swept, half-up, half-down hair styles that hung over one shoulder rather than to the back. A soft wave was added for extra glamour," Mancuso says. Try Dianna Agron's gorgeous half-up, wavy 'do.

Bangs are totally in this spring, but you might not be ready to commit to their maintenance and hairstyle limitations. Luckily, the geniuses who came up with hair extensions have finally unleashed fake bangs on the world. The bangs, which retail for $30 at Urban Outfitters, come in six different hair colors. They can be hand-washed and styled, so experiment with different fringe looks like Kim Kardashian did at a recent event!

This tip may sound ridiculously obvious, but think about it: when was the last time you changed the way you part your hair? Deep side parts like Lo Bosworth's are hot this spring, and switching your part can reveal new angles on your face.

If you don't want to get a haircut, even something as simple as repairing your split ends can change the appearance of your hairstyle. Mancuso recommends using Nexxus ProMend. "It binds up to 92% of split ends in just one use for actual lasting repair. The results and feedback I've gotten from celebrities and clients is five star!"

Put down the hair iron, the blow dryer and the curling iron and step away from the straightening serum. Not only will your strands (which you've probably been taming into submission for years, right?) thank you, you'll be totally on-trend with the natural hair seen at spring 2011 runway shows and on A-listers like Mila Kunis.
