If there’s one way to tone down a floral, full-skirted Carolina Herrera gown, it’s with a messy-chic fishtail braid and fresh, minimal makeup. We loved Lucy Liu‘s Golden Globes beauty look so much, we had to break it down here for you.
Can you imagine not washing your hair before hitting the red carpet at one of the year’s biggest award shows? Believe it or not, that’s what Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte recommends — braids like Lucy’s work best on hair that hasn’t been shampooed in a day or two.
Step 1: Prep dry hair with Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier Style Primer. Add Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Hairspray to create texture through the roots and lengths.
Step 2: Create a deep side part and French braid the hair down each side of the head. Merge the two braids at the bottom, placing the plait to the side so it drapes over the shoulder.
Step 3: Flip the ends of the hair through the hole between the two braids.
Step 4: Weave the lengths of the hair into a fishtail braid. Use Wella Professionals Rugged Fix on the ends for a rugged texture.
Step 5: Finish the look with Wella Professionals Stay Essential hairspray.
“I wanted to create a pristine and classic look without forgetting about the Hollywood glam factor of the Golden Globes!” said makeup artist Kristofer Buckle, who created Lucy’s look using products from NYX Cosmetics.
Step 1: Prep the face with NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer and apply HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in Soft Beige. Set with finishing powder.
Step 2: Contour the cheeks with Matte Bronzer in Medium, and apply Powder Blush in Rose Garden on the apples. Highlight the cheekbones with Illuminator in Chaotic.
Step 3: Apply white, cream, and brown shades from the NYX Natural Shadow Palette on the eyes. To add definition, sweep Single Eye Shadow in Black on the outsides of the eyes. Finish with false lashes, Doll Eye Mascara and The Curve eyeliner along the top lash line.
Step 4: On lips, apply soft pink Xtreme Lip Cream in Candy Land.
