We've only just come to terms with the fact that summer is actually coming to an end, but that doesn't mean we've spared any time making ourselves familiar with the latest trends to try. We like having our favorite classics to fall back on, but these 20 fall beauty looks are certainly worth trying, too.

The Graphic Cat Eye
Classic flicked-out liner is getting an update, thanks to bolder lines and bigger wings. Think modern art, not Old Hollywood.

Perfectly Defined Lip Color
In a season known for its bolder, more dramatic tones, lipstick applied haphazardly just won't do. Make friends with a matching lip liner and a lip brush, and clean up the outline using a touch of concealer for the cleanest look.

A Dewy—Not Greasy—Flush
Leave powder blush to the hotter months, and opt instead for a creamy cheek color to give you the glow that's so hard to come by when the temperature starts to drop.

Ultra-Flattering Brows
Go big, go bold, go natural—whatever it may be, go for what suits you, and accentuate it with a clear or tinted brow gel to keep hairs in place all day long.

Statement Lashes
It's no longer enough to just slap on a coat of mascara and go. Falsies aren't practical for every day wear, so get your mascara application technique down to a science for thicker, fuller and—dare we say it?—almost spidery lashes.

A Not-So-Basic Ponytail
The standard "gym ponytail," as we've taken to calling it, has its place, but it's mandatory that you add a refined version to your repertoire, whether it's a low-slung pony worn with a center-part or a '60s-inspired look that's teased at the crown.

The Stained Lip
A stained lip is simple, straightforward and majorly pretty. You don't even have to invest in a "lip stain" to get it—just use your finger to press your favorite lipstick, ideally something in the berry family for that just-bitten look, into your lips, focusing on the center and blending outward.

Subtle Colored Liner
You'd be surprised by how easy-to-wear and understated a colorful eye look can be. Trade in your standard black or brown liner for something in a deep eye color-complimenting shade, like a rich navy for brown eyes or purple for blue and green.

Hair Accessories
Go all the way with tassels, feathers, beads and pom-poms or keep it on the more work-appropriate side with bobby pins that contrast your hair color.

Matte—But Not One-Dimensional—Skin
Top off translucent powder with something to put the glow back in on the tops of cheekbones and other high points of the face for a look that's velvety and natural-looking, not flat.

The "No Makeup" Makeup Look
All you need is—deep breath—foundation, concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, brow pencil, blush, and highlighter. Easy!

A Deep Side Part
The fastest route to a hair update is by way of a deep side part… and we mean deep. Your part should begin toward the end of your eyebrow and angle back, with the side with less hair tucked behind your ear. Push the whole thing over one shoulder for a look that's very va-va-voom.

Metallics
Eyeshadows, eyeliners, and even lipsticks are getting the multi-dimensional metallic treatment this season. Choose just one to keep it understated, or do it up on both lips and eyes.

A Really Cool Braid
We're partial to tiny braids at the hairline, or even a throwback to braided pigtails. It doesn't matter which braided look you choose, just that you're good at it, and can turn to it in times of need (as in, when you haven't shampooed in a while).

Colorful Eyeshadow
You've tried the bold lip, now give the bold eye a chance—pair minimal face makeup and bare lips with a sheer wash of your favorite color on lids.

The Messy-Chic Hairstyle
The quest for beach hair doesn't end when beach season does. A little bit of volume and messy texture goes a long way when it comes to pulling a look together.

A Toned-Down Smoky Eye
No Kardashian eyes here: The new smoky eye is softer, more subtle, and a lot less over-the-top than its previous incarnations. Think shadow rather than smoke.

Plum All Over
Pick a shade that has the same undertones as your skin and wear it on eyes, lips, and cheeks for a look that's natural but better.

Liner on the Lower Lid
Whether it's black, brown, or in color, a super-fine line on the lower lid is fresh and unexpected.

Highlighter. Period.
Our highlighters don't get out much during the summer—sweat is nature's highlighter, after all—so it's high time to brush up on your illuminating skills. Hit the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, the center of your chin, your cupid's bow, and anywhere else light naturally lands for glowing skin instantly.
