Celebrities are steadily delivering us an endless supply of beauty inspiration, whether it’s when they strut onto the red carpet or decide to share a snap of their life on Instagram. We carry along pics of their impeccable haircuts to the salon and regularly look to them for a way to switch up a standard cat-eye. It seems like it would be impossible to pick a favorite, but each week there’s one celeb hair or makeup moment that really speaks to us. That’s the look that gets crowned our Beauty MVP.
Here’s another little reminder that blue eye makeup isn’t outdated—it just depends on if you’re wearing it with a perm or not. And it’s 2015, so looks like you’re in the clear. At the “Irrational Man” premiere, Emma Stone’s makeup artist was inspired by her Giambattista Valli dress and used bright blue liner to draw on graphic lines that shockingly went really well with peachy shadow and coral-pink lipstick.
“I wanted Emma’s makeup to have a modern and fresh feeling with a surprising pop of color,” said makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. “I used a bright blue liner to create a graphic element to Emma’s eyes, which I offset by using a subtle pink on her lips for a hint of color that would complement the eye makeup without competing.”
The first step in getting that eye look was applying a white cream shadow on the lid and the brow bone (Goodwin says she did this to catch the light) followed by the peachy REVLON Illuminance Crème Shadow in Skinlights on the crease.
Coincidentally, the part of the look that popped the most was only targeted in a teeny tiny area around the eyes—meaning it won’t take you THAT much time to do if you at least have a steady hand. Goodwin used the REVLON PhotoReady Kajal Matte Eye Pencil in Matte Marine (it’ll cost you less than $10) and drew a tiny “V” on the corners of each eye. After defining the brows, curling lashes, and applying two coats of REVLON Bold Lacquer Length & Volume Mascara in Black, the eye makeup was set.
The equation behind that glowy complexion was a combo of moisturizer, a super lightweight foundation (Goodwin still wanted to see Stone’s freckles), blush, and illuminator. That “pinky” color showed up again on Stone’s lips, where Goodwin used REVLON Ultra HD Lipstick in HD Primrose to finish it all off.
