From fashion to hair and makeup, there’s no denying that the ’90s are back in a serious way—and we couldn’t be more excited. No, we’re not bringing back the chunky highlights and overplucked brows that so defined our actual 1990s experience; but we ARE looking back at some of our original beauty icons for hair and makeup inspiration. We’re talking all glam everything, all day: voluminous hair, dramatic lips, cheekbones contoured for the Gods.

And nobody in the ’90s was more glam than Cindy Crawford. With her dark eyes, flawless skin and famous mole, her look was—and remains—nothing short of iconic. So today, we’re breaking down exactly how to get Cindy’s flawless ’90s makeup and hair using modern products. Consider this your ultimate #TBT.

Skin: The ’90s were all about the very matte complexion—heavy, full-coverage foundation was practically de rigueur. Today, we prefer formulas that are lightweight but still offer amazing coverage: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Gel Cream ($29, sephora.com) gives you a flawless finish that looks perfectly natural.

Conceal any imperfections with your favorite concealer (we really love Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer ($32, sephora.com) to hide redness, spots and under-eye circles), then set with powder.

Cindy was probably wearing loose powder with a slightly pink tint in this photo; skip that and set your makeup with a translucent powder, which actually matches your skin tone, instead. NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder ($36, sephora.com) is amazing; it banishes shine while adding just a touch of shimmer to your skin. And, as a bonus, it doesn’t flash back in photos—so you’ll never look like you’re wearing a scary pale mask.

Cheeks: The Supermodel-approved look in the ’90s was incredibly blush-intensive; Cindy keeps it restrained here with just a touch of apricot. Using a quality blush brush, apply a pinky-gold shade to the apples of your cheeks (those are the chubby parts that you see when you smile). L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Blush ($9.19, drugstore.com) in either Precious Peach or Apricot Kiss, depending on your complexion and shade preference, are absolute perfection.

Brows: We know; Cindy’s eyebrows are immaculate. Done but not overdrawn, you can get this look by brushing your brows up with either a clear or tinted gel—L’Oreal Brow Stylist Gel Mascara ($7.19, drugstore.com) has a mascara-style wand that ensures even product application, while the formula stays put all day.

Eye makeup: This is a fairly standard smoky eye done in shades of matte grey; you can update it by adding a little bit of shine. Lancome’s Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Gris Fatale ($50, lancome-usa.com) contains everything you need to recreate this look. Apply the light silver all over your mobile eyelid (the part that moves when you blink), blending the deep grey well at the crease and outer corner. Line your top and bottom lashes with the black, smudging well with either the included applicator or a small brush. Add a little bit of the shimmery silver at the inner corner of your eyes around your tearduct, add two coats of your favorite black mascara, and voila! Simple smoky eyes.

Lips: A slightly warm-toned red lipstick with a satin finish is key here. We love MAC Lipstick in Cardinal ($16, maccosmetics.com), an intense red with subtle golden shimmer that gives you all of Cindy’s ’90s makeup drama without looking dated.

Hair: Cindy Crawford’s hair is a natural wonder of the world—but this style is totally easy to achieve. Deep-part your hair to one side, then wrap one to two-inch sections around a wide barreled curling iron (2″ is perfect, but if you have fine hair, you may want to try 1 1/2″ instead, as smaller curls tend to hold better). If you want more modern curls, wrap the hair around the barrel away from your face; if you want the true Cindy look, wrap your hair towards your face so that your curls face in. Brush out your hair so that you’re left with soft waves, then re-curl the sections by your face for extra definition. Set with hairspray—how can we go past L’Oreal Ellnet Extra-Strong Hairspray ($14.99, ulta.com) for both it’s amazing hold AND true ’90s pedigree?

You’ve now successfully stolen Cindy Crawford’s perfectly ’90s hair and makeup look! Go forth and be as stunning as possible; maybe even get a few friends together and recreate the Freedom video.
