One person’s opinion is exactly that—an opinion. For the real low-down on just about anything, it’s wise to take as many reviews into account as possible rather than go off a single recommendation. (That’s why Consumer Reports has been around for, like, 80 years. No joke!)
Under-eye concealers are not to be taken lightly. A good one can make you look younger, brighter, and more awake; a bad one can cake and crease and settle into fine lines you didn’t even know you had. You can either make it a matter of trial and error or look to the thousands of reviews on the Internet to find a truly great, tried-and-true formula that has the masses on its side.
We mined Reddit, Sephora.com, Ulta, and MakeupAlley reviews to find the seven under-eye concealers everyone is totally obsessing over right now. Of course, it’s important to not believe everything you read online … but when everyone agrees on something, the chance that they’re all making it up is pretty slim.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($29)
Reviewers all over the Internet frequently praise this formula, with a Reddit user noting that it "blends really nicely and has amazing coverage." Sephora commenters describe it as "the best formula for under-eye concealing," with long-lasting coverage and plenty of variety for different skin tones.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer ($25)
Not only do reviewers call this "the best concealer [they've] ever tried," but it comes in an expansive shade range that's got pretty much everybody covered, from Extra Light to Extra Deep. It makes the eye area look "rested and bright, but not in an obvious way," and it can be built up a little bit at a time for the perfect amount of coverage.
Cargo_HD Picture Perfect Concealer ($28)
We're kind of ashamed to admit that we'd almost forgotten about Cargo as a brand—based on the very favorable reviews, it's totally our bad. MakeupAlley reviewers say it never settles into fine lines and does a bang-up job of canceling out under-eye shadows. "What's really great about this is how well it wears without settling into and drawing attention to under-eye creases," one reviewer says. Perfect.
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer ($21)
There's a place for MAC in most makeup lovers' hearts, that's for sure. This liquidy concealer can be built up for full matte coverage for up to 15 hours, which is, you know, a significant stretch of time. "I have really bad dark circles under my eyes, and this is one of the few concealers that covers it up and lasts all day," a MakeupAlley member shared.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser ($8.99)
There is life after pricey concealer, and it comes in the form of this "treatment" formula that seems pretty universally beloved. Ulta reviewers call it "easy to build for heavy coverage," and it blends out easily with good coverage thanks to the soft, spongy applicator. The four concealer shades are a bit limiting, but the range also includes a neutralizing shade and a brightening shade that are helpful to all skin tones.
It Cosmetics Eyelift in a Tube ($29)
This dual-ended wand contains the brand's beloved Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer on one end and the Hello Light Liquid Brightener on the other, which is all kinds of genius. (Why don't more brands do that?) A Reddit reviewer describes the concealer as "thicker" than the brightening formula, so it sticks to the skin rather than sliding off. "It does not crease, especially when set with powder," they say—and we believe it, based on the super moisturizing, anti-aging ingredients it's packed with.
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage ($35)
According to Reddit reviews and Sephora comments alike, this concealing duo is where it's at. Because it's "so pigmented … you only need a small amount and a little goes a long way." Be forewarned, however: Some people say that it can be a bit drying, so it's best to start with a great eye cream first—the excellent coverage makes it worth it.
