Sure, it may be your lifeline – and it literally never leaves your hands throughout the day – but phones can be pretty disgusting. We’re constantly wondering if all the dirt and bacteria that’s inevitably landing on touch screens—that we’re then putting directly on our faces—could lead to blemishes or make acne breakouts worse. You can see all the smudges and foundation smears in plain view, but think of all the microbes that aren’t visible to the naked eye. The obvious fix is to wipe down the surface every day, but is that ever going to happen?
A Chinese phone company, ZTE Corporation, is taking another approach to decrease the amount of bacteria sitting on your touch phone. The launch of their new phone, named the ZTE AXON, will be made with an antimicrobial Gorilla Glass. This material is supposed to help reduce any stains and odor-causing bacteria from living on the glass, but don’t go skipping your cleansing routine just yet. The company made clear that they aren’t promising any health benefits. But, we can all hope for a decrease in some breakouts caused by that bacteria build-up, of course.
So this phone may not completely ease the minds of those with oily or acne-prone skin, but it will address all that other junk you likely don’t want near your face. And even if you don’t plan on ditching your iPhone or Android, it’s nice to know that this type of technology is out there—and hopefully more brands will follow suit with an added benefit to your complexion soon. Apple, do you hear us? Please buy this technology and improve on it, our skin will thank you.
