While out for drinks last night, my friend said there were three things that made her life feel chaotic — a messy apartment, not unpacking from a recent trip, and of course, chipped nails. As trivial as it seems, a messy manicure can leave us feeling out of whack. Like if you don’t have time to fix your nails, what else are you skimping out on? While we totally understand the need to dab on some polish when a chip happens unexpectedly, there are still some places you should NEVER fix a mani. Trust us, you don’t want to be “that” girl.

1. Driving Your Car
Do we even have to explain this one? It’s beyond dangerous. We don’t care if you’re stuck in traffic. Don’t polish and drive.

2. Sitting at Your Desk
If testing new nail polish shades isn’t directly related to your job, painting your nails while at work looks unprofessional. Plus, if you have time for a midday manicure, your boss will most likely assume you don’t have enough work and will reward you with more.

3. Taking Public Transportation
Although much safer than while actually driving, applying polish in the back of a cab, on the train or sitting on a bumpy bus won’t turn out well. Can you imagine the finished result? Not to mention the angry glares of fellow passengers subjected to your polish fumes.

4. At the Dinner Table
Whether you’re waiting for a date at a restaurant or even in the comfort of your home, this is a complete no-no. Although nail polish appears to dry within 15 minutes, it takes much longer. Eating right after will end in a crumby mani.

5. Your Boyfriend’s Place
Let’s leave a little to the imagination, shall we ladies? He shouldn’t know just how long it actually takes you to look so perfect.
