When you think of CVS make-up, it’s Maybelline, Revlon, and Covergirl. But not for long. CVS is soon launching a Sephora-like chain called Beauty 360. It will be home to 32 lines, including the more upscale department store (read expensive) lines. CVS hasn’t disclosed specifically what brands they are going to stock their shelves with, but I’m envisioning something similar to Duty-Free in the International terminal at JFK.
When asked what their competitive edge over companies like Sephora, Ulta, and Shoppers’ Drug Mart will be, Cheryl Mahoney, CVS’ vice president of merchandising for beauty cited the heavy amount of foot traffic CVS stores receive, saying “The drugstore has about four million customers a day. Sixty percent of the female population lives within 5 miles of a CVS store.”
And it’s true, now that I think about it I actually live two blocks, and work one block away from a CVS. And it sure would be amazing not to have to walk the ten blocks that I currently do to Sephora and Bloomingdales.
