It’s been a big week in perfumes for me: first, I find out that Romano Ricci is launching the third fragrance installment in his cult (and my favorite) Juliette Has a Gun line. And now, word has it that Balenciaga, the brand that keeps me up at night in lustful preoccupation, has just signed a licensing deal with Coty Beauty to produce and distribute a series of fragrances for the legendary house. This is pretty groundbreaking, if only because the French luxury brand’s only foray into fragrance took place in 1946 when they released Le Dix by Balenciaga. They’ve done nothing in the notoriously money-making arena of beauty since. Perhaps this will serve as insurance in uncertain financial times? One thing’s for sure–if the upcoming Balenciaga scent is anything like the clothes, it’s sure to be an instant hit.
