If anyone knows the importance of music in any situation, it’s Afrojack. Born Nick van der Wall, the 27-year-old has been hailed as one of the most influential names in EDM, bagging the title of “global icon” by The Hollywood Reporter, and landing at number 7 on Forbes’ list of the world’s highest paid DJs. Oh, and he’s only the second DJ in history to get a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Clearly, this guy knows music, which is why we tracked him down for his definitive summer playlist. Check out his lively picks below, and if you’re headed to Vegas anytime soon, check him out at Omnia, where he currently has a residency.
“This is the U.K. in full effect. Skepta comes out of the Grime scene, his flow is amazing and he’s about to blow up.”
Hudson Mohawke —”Ryderz“
“This track kicks off with soul and then when the drop comes in … just crazy.”
“I’ve [always] been a big fan of Kendrick. His album is on repeat and this song to me is a blueprint of his work.”
“Eric Prydz is one of my favorite producers, the buildup of this track is just insane.”
Fetty Wap—“Trap Queen”
“This song is crazy, I’ve been hearing it in the clubs for the last couple of months and it makes you want to dance and party. Everybody’s going wild on this one.”
“This is such an anthemic song, like it came straight out of a movie. The video is out of this world.”
Jauz & Ephwurd—“Rock The Party”
“This style is the sound of the moment, really supported by a lot of DJs. I made an edit for this track for my live set.”
Jack Ü ft. Justin Bieber—“Where are Ü now (Marshmello Remix)”
“The original version is a monster, it’s tough to come with a remix that makes sense these days but this is one of those mixes you can’t sleep on.
The Weeknd—“The Hills”
Abel’s vocals are one of the best, his production is on point, the song is simply amazing.
Afrojack ft. Mike Taylor—“SummerThing!”
“Mike wrote the song and made a rough demo, and [it] caught attention from Tuo who works at Def Jam who brought it to Steve Bartels, and they played it for me, I was like let me work on it and within a few hours I had the first version. We started to perfec it and it felt like the right thing to put out as the first single of my new upcoming album.
